From the experts:

This short form of Ariel (or any other Ari- beginning name, such as Aristotle) stands up better as a boys’ name than its progenitor does. It is also short for Aristotle, as in Onassis, and is a prominent character on TV's Entourage -- the uberagent Ari Gold.

Among other prominent bearers have been Ari Fleischer, White House press secretary for President George W. Bush and Ari Emanuel, powerful talent agent and possible inspiration for Ari Gold.

Ari Ben Canaan is the main character in the Leon Uris novel Exodus, played by Paul Newman on screen, and Ari is the name of one of the Tenenbaum sons in The Royal Tenenbaums.

My beautiful boys name:) love Ari so much.

EW314 Says:

Love this name! Ariel is gorgeous too, but (and I hate to say this, because I know how people dislike it) it has "gone girl" because of the Little Mermaid. Please don't lynch me - I hate the term too but I'm just trying to be pragmatic about teasing potential here. Ari is a lovely, light, breezy alternative. It's a very likeable name.

EW314 Says:

You got all that from three letters?

FantasyandPrayer Says:

Where I'm from Harry without the H would be pronounced Ah-ree, which I still think would be too easily confused with Ari although I would also pronounce it Are-ee

Katherine Harrington Says:

I pronounce Ari Are-ee, while Harry without the H would be pronounced Airy

FantasyandPrayer Says:

Love the meaning but not the name :( where i come from its common to drop the H from words so most people would think it was "Harry".

guest1998 Says:

it says it's a boys name, but i know a lot of girls named ari too. i always considered it gender neutral.

Marlz81 Says:

So cute:)

ziggywiggy Says:

ahh that makes a lot of sense. I hate when bad people ruin good names!! I believe the boy I knew's name was just Ari, not a nickname, although I can totally picture an Aristotle nn Ari! going right on my gp list!

ambercat Says:

Oh, yes! The flip side of the that is true for me, too; if there is someone I have a positive experience with, I'll instantly start liking their name and think it's great.

ambercat Says:

Acquaintance -- I seriously doubt that he'd want any sort of physical contact any more than I would with him :P. I was already married by the time I encountered him (and it's actually Mr. Ambercat's fault that I had to get involved with that (even though the problem between the two of them was going way before I even met my husband). Believe it or not, I don't have bad feelings towards my exs, it just wasn't meant to be between us but I hope that things worked out for them. The offensive Ari's name is short for Ariel, maybe your literate little friend Ari's name short for Aristotle? Maybe?

Zelliew Says:

It does sound like Ambercat is describing a Definate someone

ziggywiggy Says:

did you by any chance have an ex named Ari? :P sounds like you have some strong negative associations.

The only Ari I knew was such a sweet nerdy little boy who loved books

ambercat Says:

Sounds like someone who hits below the belt then accuses the party he is hitting of not playing fair. Also, he criticizes other people like crazy yet if someone says something he perceives as a slight (even if it is just a neutral observation or you just disagree with him), he will start screaming his head off about how mean, unfair, and horrible you are. One ugly dude inside and out; someone to avoid like the plague if you are able.

Sky Says:

I like this name for a boy. My husband feels like it's too short though.
