About Ziggy
Perhaps the ultimate nicknamey name, Ziggy manages to sound cool, cutesy, spiky, and energetic all at once. It brings to mind the glam-rock of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and the cool vibes of reggae musician Ziggy Marley, along with the contemporary-but-vintage appeal of Teddy, Mack, and Albie.
Ziggy for boys#1491 US
Currently in the UK Top 400, Ziggy has also been moving up the US charts. Given to around 30 babies a decade ago, in 2022, it was given to nearly 170 baby boys and 40 baby girls. Deriving as a nickname for Siegfried, Sigmund, or similar, as a stand alone, it could mean "victory" from the Old Saxon element sigi.
While Ziggy works as a contemporary and zippy choice, if you love it but find it just a little too informal, it could work as a nickname for Zachary, Ezekiel, Zelig, Santiago, David (Ziggy Marley's official name) - or perhaps for any name containing a Z.
Ziggy for girls#6112 US
Fitting in with Scottie, Stevie, Frankie, and Birdie, Ziggy is a nickname-y choice that feels energetic, cutesy, and cool. Borrowing star quality from Ziggy Stardust and Ziggy Marley, Ziggy is predominantly used on boys, however, since the death of David Bowie in 2016, it has been quietly gathering attention as a girls name, with 43 babies given the name in a recent year.
If you love Ziggy, but would prefer it use it as a nickname, you could consider Sigrid, Zinnia, Agnes, Agneza, Grazia, Graziana, Zariah, Zipporah, Kensington / Kenzington, Sieglinde - or any name, if you're happy to use it as a generic nickname along the lines of Scout, Birdie, or Honey.
Pronounced ZIG-ee.
As of October 2026, Ziggy ranked #1491 in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #1196 in 2022, Nameberry popularity #126.
