Gender: Female Origin of North: Word name

North Origin and Meaning

The name North is a girl's name .

North's image and gender status was irrevocably changed when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West announced it as the name of their newborn daughter. But why not? West is firmly established as a name, Easton is coming up strong, and North has a nice solid sound as well -- certainly as appropriate for either gender. South, though, not so much.

I think this is a beautiful name but it's just way too tied to Kim Kardashian to be very usable. I feel everyone would immediately think of her when you say your kid's name.

North West wouldn't be such a crazy name if her last name wasn't West. North and West separately are cool names! I wanted Kim to name her Key West (get it?! Key West!!!)

I don't have a problem with this name. If people are using months as names then why not directions too?

Kim and Kanye chose a perfect name for their child. It's a huge shame that the only problem is it collides badly with their surname. Overall I think the name North is lovely.

I like the sound of this name. And I think it could be used equally well for either gender. It has a strong, constant feel to it, like the North Star, which is what I think of when I hear the name North. I would totally use it as a middle, and maybe even a first.
