Ezra Origin and Meaning

The name Ezra is a girl's name .

Ezra, the Biblical name that has recently risen into the boys' Top 100, makes it onto the girls' side with more than 200 baby girls given the name in the US in 2015. That puts Ezra in line to move into the girls' Top 1000. While traditionally male, Ezra's vowel ending may make it feel more girl-ready to parents than some other traditional biblical names. We like the name but its centuries-old male identity make it forever a boys' name to us.

Esra, Isra, Asra... all girl names! Leave this to the boys. This is my least favorite boy name on a girl.

Its kinda cute for a little girl, if paired with a name like
Ezra Daisy
Ezra Lily
Ezra Marie
You know like a really feminine name but I much prefer it for a girl

Whether you see this as a boys' or girls' name is more down to culture. Where I come from almost all names that end with "a" are girls' names. This sounds like a variation of Esra and Azra (both traditionally female names) and so this one will always feel girly to me. Although I don't mind it as a boys' name either, especially after reading about it's history (and I personally don't care whether a name is boyish or girlish, I care only about the way it sounds to my ears).

There's also a Turkish girls' name, Esra. This could be a variant.

Agreed, this one right up there with Asa, August, etc.

All male to me. This is one I wish the boys could just keep, it's amazing and handsome.

Eh, I like it better for guys personally. Probably because I am 100% biased towards feminine boys' names. I love 'em.

It always sounded more like a female name to me, too. I don't like it for boys.
