Top Baby Names 2024 Revealed!

Say hello to the top baby names of 2024: Olivia and Liam, once again! Olivia has been the Number 1 girl name since 2019, while Liam has held the top spot since 2017.

The most popular baby names for 2024 in the US are calculated by the Social Security Administration.

The Number 2 names, Emma and Noah, also stayed in place, while Amelia rose one spot to Number 4 (displacing Charlotte to Number 5) on the girls' side. For boys, Oliver stayed consistent at Number 3, while Theodore rose three spots to Number 4 and James dropped one to Number 5.

There was only one new addition to the 2024 Top 10: Sofia, which rose two places and replaced Luna.

Despite Sophia's fall in popularity, Sofia has continued its upward momentum. The F spelling is the dominant choice among Spanish speakers in the US and is a more international choice than the PH version. Sofia is a Top 10 choice in a dozen countries, including Canada, Germany, Italy, Mexico, and Finland.

The biggest jump among the boys' Top 10 was Theodore, which broke into the Top 5 for the first time. Friendly nicknames Theo and Teddy draw many parents to this vintage favorite. Likewise, Henry, another old-fashioned choice, rose two spots and is now at Number 6.

Fastest-Rising Names of 2024

The fastest-rising name of 2024 was Truce, which rose an almost incomprehensible 11,118 spots. Truce was only given to 6 baby boys in 2023, but was used for 227 in 2024. With two major wars , parents are actively seeking safe haven names for their children. Other fast-rising names that evoke peace and comfort include girl names Heaven, Haven, and Meadow, boy names Shepherd, Callum, and Forest, and Halo and Shiloh for both sexes.

For girls, the fastest-rising names were Ailany and Aylani, variations of the Hawaiian name Ailani meaning "high chief". Ailani was also among the top rising names of the year. Hawaiian baby names are disproportionately popular among Spanish speakers in the US, who also favor names that end in Y.

Many other Hawaiian-inspired names for girls saw notable growth in 2024, including Elani, Kailany, and Kahlani.

Fastest-Falling Names of 2024

The fastest-falling name of 2024 was Emryn, which dropped 606 spots and out of the Top 1000. The -yn suffix peaked in popularity in the early 2010s, with names like Evelyn and Brooklyn dominating the charts. Now, this class of names is beginning to fade — choices like Braelyn, Roselyn, and Ashlynn also fell out of the Top 1000 this year.

Zhuri was the second fastest-falling girl name, dropping out of the Top 1000 only two years after its debut. This particular spelling variation was popularized by LeBron James's daughter Zhuri. The original, Zuri, has cooled off as well, and dropped over 70 spots between 2023 and 2024.

The five fastest-falling boy names of 2024 all begin with K: Khari, Karsyn, Kye, Kole, and Khai. The Kardashian Era trend of respelling names with a K initial is no longer as "kool" as it used to be. The Kh- cluster in particular: along with Khari and Khai, Khaza, Khalil, Khalani, and Khloe were among the names that dropped the most.

Other sets of fast-falling boy names include word names like Nova, Justice, and Loyal, and weapon-inspired names like Cannon, Gunner, and Gage.
