Valor

Valor for boys#1254 US

Rarely used as a given name before 2011, Valor began to gather attention in 2013, possibly thanks to actor Emile Hirsch choosing it for his son. More than tripling in use since then, Valor was given to 124 boys and 15 girls in 2024.

With the likes of Chosen, Sincere, and Saint in the charts, Valor no longer feels totally out there, and, as a virtue name it could be considered versatile, given that courage and bravery can take many forms.

Influencer Valyssa Stark (sunsetsistersandsweettea) called her son Valor Job in 2025.

Valor for girls#5900 US

A modern virtue name with ancient charm, Valor works well as it doesn't come up in everyday conversation all that often. Predominantly used for boys, Valor has been given to a slowly growing number of girls in the last decade, with 15 receiving the name in a recent year.

Valor could work as an updated honor for a Valerie or a Victoria, while also being a versatile virtue name, since there are so many ways to be courageous and brave.
