There are more practical ways to show patriotism than naming your child after the country... or continent.

gsjones Says:

First of all America is not a country, it is a continent. Your country is called United States of America. Second the name of the continent comes from Americo Vespusio (Amerigo Vespucius in italian) who was the one who made the first maps of the continent. So if it is a name and you are ridiculous.

I'm American and think those names are ridiculous.

Honestly, I just feel like only a true redneck would name their child this to be honest.

Holland feels like an actual name though, as it's quite similar to Hollyn. Also isn't the actual name Netherlands?

amberdaydream Says:

It was a name before it was a country, although it is very tied to the country - I'm not American and I associate it with the country. Still, it's a very beautiful-sounding name. When I think of the country in the context of this name, I'm likelier to associate it with the iconic landscapes - the canyons, the mountains, the prairies, the forests, the bayous, New England countryside, the Oregon coastline, the plateaus of Colorado, etc. than its current political situations.

lirio Says:

This is how Europeans feel when Americans name their children Holland, Ireland, England, Scotland etc.

sueyann Says:

And her cousins Washington and July.

Scorpio Says:

Fits right in with her siblings Freedom and Eagle.

'America Singer' lol

Normally I hate hate hate place names. I dislike names like London, Paris, Brooklyn and so on because they're tacky, but for some reason I like this. It could be because of Kiera Cass's books, or maybe it's just the sound. It's funny how much I like this for a little girl, but how much I dislike it as a country name.

lissrose30 Says:

I agree. I do not live in America so to me it would be okay to name your child this.

gummybear0724 Says:

I'm American and this is ridiculous.
