I prefer this spelling, I think it's more graceful than Oona. The meaning is cute, it would be a good nickname (and by itself)!

Daiseymae Says:

It is pronouced "U-na" like the 30s actress Una Merkel.

My great grandmother was Una Belle Ralyea. My niece is Lunabella :)

I used to think this was pronounced with a "you" sound. Isn't that how Una Stubbs pronounces it? But I think most people say Oona, as per the phonetic spelling.

I first heard of this name from the Anne of Green Gables series on the character Una Meredith, and like yvonne_virginia, I loved it because she was a sweet and loyal character. I'd imagine an Una in my head to either be like the character- soft-spoken, elegant and intelligent- or to be very spirited and energetic. Una is such a lovely, short and simple name, but it has a lot of impact and presence. I much prefer this spelling, since the Oona variant makes me think of Oompa Loompas!

I like this spelling better than Oona, but both are nice.
