Talia Origin and Meaning

The name Talia is a girl's name of Hebrew origin meaning "gentle dew from heaven; by the water".

Talia is derived from the Hebrew elements tal, meaning “dew,” and yah, in reference to God. In the mythology of one ancient sect, Talia was one of ten angels who attended the sun on its daily course. The occasionally homophonous name Thalia has unrelated Greek origins.

In tandem with the longer-form Natalia, this pretty Russian-flavored girls’ name has been rising in the popularity charts in the US.

A prominent bearer is Talia Shire, doomed to go down in cinema history as Rocky's mousy girlfriend Adrienne, along with actress Talia Balsam, aka the former Mrs. George Clooney. Most recently, Talia was attributed to YouTube star Talia Joy Castellano, a young girl battling cancer who passed away at age 13.

Talia is also an Australian Aboriginal name meaning "near water".

My parents named my sister "Talia Aurora" and a lot of it had to do with sleeping beauty. We are Mexican so it sounds a little different, but it is beautiful.

Talia is also the name of Sleeping Beauty in the original tale.
I love the history of this name but I feel that it sounds modern which makes me like it a little less, I feel like people don't see it as a historic name, which for some bizarre reason, bothers me.
They can't appreciate it properly if they see it as a modern name! Haha

I love the name Talia so much i called my third baby girl Talia Hope! Such a beautiful name for such a beautiful, special little girl born premature due to my water breaking 5 weeks early, hence the name Talia (morning dew:from heaven) 😍

I'm really surprised this isn't in the top 100. I know it's not really Olivia or Mia but this name is very consistent.

You mean "genitalia"? My name is Talia, and I have never been teased with that... The pronunciation is different. TALIA is pronounced "TAH-lee-ah" not "TAY-lee-ah", so I don't think that would be an issue... But interesting that the name Talia made you think of that!

Hailey Says:

Geni-teasing? As in, people might confuse Talia for a boy's name? I have never heard of a boy named Talia in my life.

FantasyandPrayer Says:

Very, very pretty

Talia ROX!

wavygirl Says:

Huh? Sorry, that doesn't make sense.

The spelling Tahlia shows the pronunciation better and saves the name from geni-teasing.
