We named my 2nd daughter Hana (Ha-Nah) and it is constantly pronounced as Hannah. It’s a place on Maui and pretty common there; where I am from. However, in California everyone calls her Hannah. I was warned, I didn’t listen. Still love her name though!

First heard this is Wolf Children. SO GOOD.

It's interesting that the first syllable is pronounced differently to the first syllable of Hannah. I would probably have taken this to be a spelling variant, if NB hadn't clarified that in the description. I still much prefer Hannah though, which is one of my favourite girls' names.

My maternal family will pronounce this with a silent H as they are Spanish. I wouldn't mind at all. I do like.

I don't find the pronunciation "pretentious". Its just a different way to pronounce the A. Like Anna (Ann-ah) vs Anna (Ah-na). Both are beautiful. Plus if you view it as a diminutive of Johana, the correct pronunciation WOULD be Hana (Hah-na). I think its just a difference of culture and parent name. Hanna is my favorite spelling, much preferred to Hannah.

And to every teen I've ever met, a name that is supremely irritating, probably because of the pretentious pronunciation.
