Gender: Female Meaning of Everly: "wild boar in woodland clearing" Origin of Everly: English Everly's Popularity in 2019: #43

Everly Origin and Meaning

The name Everly is a girl's name of English origin meaning "wild boar in woodland clearing".

Everly originated as a toponymic surname derived from the Old English roots eofor, meaning “boar,” and leah, “clearing.” It is related to the Germanic name Eberhard, meaning “brave as a wild boar,” from which popular name Everett also derived. Wild boars represented strength and courage to ancient Germanic peoples, who often took on names with animal meanings.

Everly is part Eva, part Emily, and a large part Everly Brothers. Its recent choice for his daughter by "sexiest man in the world" Channing Tatum will inevitably propel this trendy-sounding name higher on the charts—it jumped 727 spots between 2012 and 2014, to become one of the fastest-rising names. Also spelled Everleigh, it entered the US Top 100 for the first time in 2017.

I named my daughter Everly in 2012 when it was in the 900s in popularity ranking.
I'm so disappointed that the name has caught on as much as it has, and blame it all on Channing Tatum and Pretty Little Liars (both brang the name into the norm after I had already named Everly).
I'm learning to get used to it being such a popular choice, but dread the day that I meet another little Everly.

Jessyendofstory Says:

My three year old is named Everly Jade and it fits her so well! I LOVE it!
The only problem I have is when i'm telling people I sometimes have to say Beverly without the B.

I quite like this name, which is rather contrasting compared to my usual style in names. It's looks and sounds trendy to me (which it is in America) but isn't trendy where I live. Hmmm...

Fluffykitten101 Says:

In the middle name spot, perhaps?

jenmcn1 Says:

My husband is the one that has convinced me on this first I wasn't sure. I liked it but wasn't a huge fan. However now I LOVE it. I am a week away from having my 4th baby and if it turns out to be a girl we will name her Everly Grace🎀

TheSlothPrincess Says:

It's kind of cute, but I don't think it will age well. Sounds a little too "romance novel" for me to consider.

Ruby Byler Says:

The definition alone is a deal breaker for me. Not to mention the hyper-trendiness of the name...many other names to choose from.

jenn.t.humphries Says:

I think it's a little too trendy right now. But it's a lovely sounding name.

Hailey Says:

To me this is the Aiden (and Brayden, Jayden, Cayden, Hayden) of girl names. It'll explode soon, and it's one of those names that parents give their child because it's trendy. It's pretty, but I personally couldn't use it because I already know too many little Everlys.

Shannon4567 Says:

Love this name but my sister is Emily, and it sounds way too similar to that :(

Toronto87 Says:

To me, this name is just the epitome of trendy (and I don't mean that in a good way). It's a Jennifer:p - gives away exactly when someone was born.

We named our 10-month-old Everly and it is just so beautiful to say and easy for people to pronounce and we get so many compliments on it!

PoppyOrangey Says:

I think this is more of an updated version of Beverly rather than Evelyn. It sounds fresh, but old fashioned at the same time.

summersnow Says:

I don't hate it but I don't know how to feel about it honestly. I don't think I would use it but it's cute. There's just something I can't put my finger on stopping me from liking this name.
