Baby Names 2012: The new babyberry quarterly report
One of my greatest joys is stepping back four times a year to gather up all the new names that have been added to the Birth Announcement forum, and seeing what names have moved from speculation and possibility into reality—onto the birth certificates of actual little people! There’s also the added pleasure of seeing the cool combinations of firsts and middles Berries have put together, and how the names fit in with those of their sibs.
Once again, I’m dazzled by the sheer splendor and variety of this list (the London Times has nothing on us!), the intriguing mix of the classic and the creative—so much of it the result of  the savvy advice gleaned from the discussions on the forums.
Most of these names stand individually, but we do have some multiples: three Alices and three Hazels, and pairs of babyberries named Belle, Eliza, Emeline/Emmeline, Frances, Penelope, Ruby, Wren, James, Silas and Walter, and in the middle spots more than one June and Jane, Josephine, Scarlett and Penelope (again); Carter and Alexander.
So here it is, the first Quarterly Report of Nameberry Baby Names 2012.

Reworking them a bit I’d love a sibset of Fleur, Thora, Juliette and Bruno.

Alice Harper Bennett strikes me as particularly lovely – a good mix of old fashioned and more modern, girly and tomboyish all at once.
NikitaJ360 Says:
Wow, that is so weird…Alice Harper Bennett has the first name of my novel’s main character, the surname I was about to choose for her, and the first name of her boyfriend! Alice O’Dea, (was going to be) Alice Harper, and Bennett Snowden.
tookiecan Says:
Oh! We’re due in August and our little girl’s first name is on here once! Can’t wait to announce later this summer!
Danni Says:

Samantha-Bianca Says:
People are using Django, and I think, maybe culturally, I’m missing the connection. But it does make me think of a really cool song I’ve been hearing lately called Default by a band called Django Django. Definitely a plus for the name as far as I’m concerned
Also, so many awesome names. I am glad to see Penelope making such an appearance one nameberry! It’s such a lovely name and Penny is such a nice nickname! I think there’s a whole generation of kids who grew up on Inspector Gadgets having babies!
These names are a nice change from the 4 Jasmine/Jazmin/Jasmins, gazillion Isabellas, tonnes of Jacobs and Jaydens and Caydens and Jacks, Georgias and Jorjas my daughter goes to school with!
katybug Says:

I forgot to post a birth announcement for my little one–William Rufus, born at the end of last year. Yes, an actual Rufus! I know the name is divisive on the name boards and we got a couple strange looks from family, but we think he’s pretty hip.
Elisabeth Rae Says:
These are lovely!
Special note to mom of Lucy Penelope, Alice, Molly, and Jane: I love ALL of your kids names. Lucy, Alice, and Jane are all on my list for girls (along with Elisabeth, Susannah, Amy, and Margaret) and I really adore Molly.

The triplets’ names are absolutely lovely.
lemon Says:
These are outstanding. Parents, I hope each of you are thrilled with your choices, because they’re all just incredible! I feel bad even calling out a few for fear of taking away from any other equally-deserving names!
Clara Beatrix is just so scrumptious with the classic but under-appreciated Claire spin-off and sassy Beatrice-with-an-x. Plus, Leo, Asher, and Simon? What a set!
Greer Hattie Aurelia is such a peculiar mix of names, but in a great way! The flow is on point, and can you think of a better sister to Sloane Thora Eunice? I sure can’t! A gem.
Juniper Elise makes me feel so good. It’s not a warm and fuzzy name with the likes of Elsa Beatrice and Magnolia Mae, but it’s got this certain star power that I love! I’ve never seen Elise look better, and Elyse is my own middle name. Bravo!
I need to comment on the two uses of Maeve – Maeve Josephine and Philippa Maeve. What a fresh spin on two boyish-chic classics! Maeve instantly lends a strong, feminine touch to a name. I love ‘em.
But, I’d be remiss in not pointing out the sheer wonder that is Zelda Marigold. Who uses Zelda anymore?! Well, you should! These parents could have chosen the equally vintage Mabel Clementine but, boy, would they have lost out on the ‘oomph’ that Zelda brings to a name. Major, major name props. A true style statement!
A quick scan of the boys’ names yields some interesting but totally usable names, too! Dover? Inspired! Ledger and Shepherd are fantastic as well. And, the fact that two people used Silas makes me smile.
Well done, all.
Lori Johnson Says:
Inspiring, Berries!

I was stunned to see another Dashiell Carter out there. Our own recently turned 5. Congratulations to his parents.
janellepierzina Says:
My husband and I had a baby this last December and we named her Violet Anne
atxjenny Says:
Another Dashiell Carter? What are the odds? Ours goes by Dash and at three months I know it’s the perfect name for him. Kudos on your great taste! Let’s hope they both accomplish great things in life and enhance each other’s reputation.
Just a note, Leighton and Dash’s big sister is Juliet Corinne (not Juliette Connie ). Thanks!
emilymaryjane Says:
thanks for listing Luella’s name on there.
emilymaryjane Says:
oh and Elliott’s thats two from my family =)
Nedra Says:
Eleanor Rosalind was one that I’d thought of too. It always amazes me how the same (relatively unusual) name can be independently thought of by different people around the same time. I wonder whether the parents of this Eleanor Rosalind were also thinking of naming her after Eleanor Roosevelt and Rosalind Franklin, or whether they had a totally different thought process from me!
Also, one of the boys’ middle names is my (real life) first name! I’ve never heard it on a boy before, but it makes me totally happy to think of my name as being unisex!
sahsee Says:
Hi, my third sons name is Onyx Jack. Brother to Caiden Phillip James & Levi Christopher. He is the only Onyx I know of at this stage, but I have a feeling there will be a few more around in years to come!
Natalie_Joanita Says:
I love Emeline Nova, I think Nova is a really great name, and Luella Blossom is soo sweet!
mariahsweet Says:
It’s be handy to see some verification that some of the larger families listed here are legitimate, you know?
juliagulia Says:
@ Mariah: Agreed.

My daughter was born in Jan. of this year and I did post a birth announcement. Her name isn’t on this list for some reason but it’s Madeline Frances Treat (double middle, to get my maiden name in there).
