Julius Origin and Meaning

The name Julius is a boy's name of Latin origin meaning "youthful, downy-bearded".

Immortal through its association with the ancient Caesar (it was his clan name), Julius may still lag behind Julian, but is definitely starting to make a comeback, and in fact feels more cutting edge, in line with the current trend for Latin -us endings.

A common Christian name in Roman times—as in Pope Julius I—it was rarely used in English speaking countries until the nineteenth century. Some Julius connections: basketball great Julius "Dr. J" Erving, characters in the Artemis Fowl book series and television show Everybody Hates Chris, Groucho Marx's birth name, the comic monkey created by Paul Frank, and the Orange Julius drink.

My first thought is Orange Julius. My second is the character from Remember the Titans (that's a good association at least). I've never met someone with this name, or Julian.

My father is Julian, and it's also my brother's middle name after him. I'd love to use Julius as a nod to them both, especially for a July baby.

I don't see a boy getting away with the name Juli. Jule Styne did it, but that was 60 years ago.

I really like the name Julius. It's one of the names I was debating on for my dog if he was a boy (lol). Is it crazy that I think Juli would be a super cute nickname? For a boy?

I actually think this would be a cute girls name.
