To me the meaning of “inhospitable place” just makes the name even more outdoorsy, badass and wild. Makes me think of a tough brave adventurer. I’d choose that for my boy rather than a frolicking meadow any day.

This is the name I chose for my daughter. We love it. It’s really rare in our part of the world, and is very unique when chosen for a female.

Sky85 Says:

This was the villains name in Elmo In Grouchland, played by Mandy Patinkin. He would steal everyone's stuff and claim it as his own. He was rotten to even his "friends" and had the most bushiest eyebrows I had ever seen.

This is the only thing that comes to mind when I hear or see this name

Leonina Says:

I agree, it's a really lovely name. Nicknames could be Hux or Hugs (which would be adorable imo....)

paulapuddephatt Says:

I don't like it much for either gender, but I think it is more feminine somehow.

Tammy Tim-Tam (Timmy Tammy) Says:

Definitely a girl name for me!

Huxley's Mom Says:

Hux is a form of Hugh. A Lea is a meadow in Old English. The meaning of Huxley I'm familiar with specifically means Hugh' s meadow. A far cry from a barren wasteland as I've seen listed as its meaning before because of the connection to Aldous. I was going to use the name for a boy or a girl, but we had a boy. It fits him and his personality perfectly. Frickin adorable!
