I think you either don't care about this name or love it. I must say, I really like this name ;) Something about it is so unique, I can predict that it will be popular eventually like other state names (Georgia, Virginia, etc.)

So bold and unusual! I like it...a name for a rugged and wild beauty. Although I'll probably never use it.

It's an unusual take on place names, and I suppose if you have a deep connection to the place, then go for it. Personally though, it makes me think of Sarah Palin :/ and huskies. I think Juneau would be a nicer alternative to honor the state than Alaska.

I think it's really cool how popular this name is getting. I've seen like 5 name polls now where people are contemplating naming their daughters Alaska Noelle and that's really cool (and kind of freaky) to me because that's my name.

My nickname for a (growing) group of friends is Alaska. It began as something that only people at my job called me (everyone needed a different name for anonymity) and once I started meeting new people with coworkers, it expanded. Now, it's just as much my name as my actual name. I love it. I love when people compliment me on it without knowing it's not my given name. It's similar enough to my given name (Alexandra) that it's not too difficult for people to accept it's a nickname without me going into the whole had-to-pick-a-name-for-work, etc etc origin story.

What name did you eventually decide on for your child?

Looking for Alaska by John Green made me love this name. Although, I don't really like Alaska's fate in that book I thought she was a strong character. She was very unique and event though she had a negative outlook on life she was still inspirational. Alaska was loyal to her friends. She was also bold, and want afraid to be herself. I would seriously consider using this name on a child. I think it is a really pretty place name. :)

I love this name but the John Green book ruined it for me because I hated the girls personality and hatred for life.
