Kendall

Originally an English surname, borrowed from the place name, Kendale, Kendall was given almost exclusively to boys until the 40s when it began to be used for a small number of girls each year. By the 80s, it was a gender-neutral choice, however, since the 1993 appearance of the character Kendall Hart in the soap opera All My Children, it has been leaning feminine.

Kendall's status as a trendy name for girls was further reinforced by the supermodel Kardashian sister, Kendall Jenner, and by Dance Moms>/em> star, Kendall Vertes. It was at its peak back in 2012, when 2625 girls were given the name.

More recent years have seen it decline in popularity, with 985 girls (and 162 boys) receiving the name in the latest count — though that does still place it in the US Top 400. It last ranked for boys in 2018, and is currently split 15:85 towards girls.

As of October 2026, Kendall ranked #328 in US births in 2025 SSA, peaked at #116 in 2012.
