I'm starting to love this name! Mostly as a middle name as it might be a bit tricky for some to pronounce as a first. My fiance is from Washington but as he's in the military he moves around a bit far from home, and so I love the idea of having a landmark of his beloved home state as a namesake! It also sounds unusual and strong and just a little bit regal while having the distinct connotation of mountains and nature (as I'm not from the US I only got this connotation when my Fiance told me but now I love it!).

That's how I've always pronounced it too, and I'm not from Washington. :)

Just came back from a trip to Seattle and hiked Mount Rainier, and now Rainier is on my radar and my latest name crush. It's handsome, elegant, strong and regal with roots, plus there's the bonus nature name tie-in. I love the meaning of wise army too (some of my favorite names coincidentally just happen to have some variation of this meaning). I also really like the sound of it (I'd pronounce it like Ray-Ny-eer) and the way it evokes the image of soothing pitter-pattering rain for me :)

RAIN-eer is 2 syllables, while I'm saying they would pronounce it like 3 syllables Rain-y-er.

That IS how it's pronounced, RAIN-eer. Although I have heard tourists call it RAY-neer and ruh-NEER. :-)

Beautiful nature name, manly and yes, majestic.

I bet someone would pronounce it "Rain-ee-er". Lots of ties to the weather.
