Honestly, I had no idea this was a real name, not just something George Lucas made up.

DaisyMaisie Says:

it sounds and looks so pretty! i don't think the star wars associasion ruins it at all.

scblovesnames Says:

I love Star Wars, and so I've been very cautious about stating my love for this name. Leia though is worthy of consideration in her own right as a beautiful name. I love it.

TaliaCat Says:

Yes, it does make me think of the stars!! I love that!

Stump Girl Says:

Obviously you would prefer Lia if it's part of your own name. Leia, in my opinion, is much prettier and makes me think of the stars. Nothing wrong with it being linked to Starwars, and the fact that it is doesn't make it worse than Lia - Lia, which sounds like a misspelling of Leah, or an abbreviation of other longer -lia ending names.

TaliaCat Says:

Too Star Wars and only Star Wars... Even though it's a different name, I much prefer Lia

jasminegarden Says:

I am a huuuuge Star Wars fan and Princess Leia is one of the best characters ever in my opinion, I would gladly name my daughter Leia. What little girl wouldn't want a name associated with a strong, beautiful, feisty princess?

DearestJules Says:

You might get Lee-ya sometimes, but I think even people who aren't big fans will have heard of Princess Leia before. I haven't seen a single Star Wars movie but I still know who she is. Like how everyone knows who Darth Vader is.

Theodora_Phoenix Says:

I've never watched Star Wars either! I think I'm one of the very few people who can say that, though. But you're right. Leia is a good name!

Candler Says:

A good alternative to Top 100's Layla

Guest Says:

I've never officially seen Star Wars but this name is very pretty, I would use it.

Vicki Says:

The only problem with this name is that people that aren't familiar with Stars Wars sometimes pronounce it 'Lee-ya'.

ambg Says:

Yes, it's from Star Wars. But damn if it isn't one of the cooler, time-tested pop culture associations you can give a kid. Sounds lyrical and is directly derived from an "actual" name. I also taught a little 4-year-old Leia at a child development center and she was so sweet that it solidified this as one of my favorite names.

Sweekune Says:

One of my favourite L names! Being a Star Wars fan, I love the connection with George Lucas's franchise.
