Gender: Male Origin of Jupiter: Roman mythology name

Jupiter Origin and Meaning

The name Jupiter is a boy's name .

Jupiter's partner Juno has entered the mainstream, so it's possible that her divine mate could follow. The name of the supreme Roman deity and the largest planet has until recently had either too hippie or too grandiose a feel for most mortals, but with the rise of sound-alike Juniper and space names such as Orion and Mars, Jupiter may find new favor.

Short form Jupe is adorable.

EW314 Says:

It's good fun, and I can definitely see it working as a quirky middle name. I love the sound of it, and for some reason it seems a lot less grandiose and presumptuous than Zeus, but I'm just not sure I can see it ageing all that well. It's very cute for a little boy, but for a grown man? Or a granddad? Could work, but I'm just not sure I'd go there.

Lena_Aline Says:

Definitely better than Zeus.

Luísa Says:

After Mila Kunis, I started to love Jupiter for a girl too!!!

otheralix Says:

I know someone named Jupiter so the name is not usable for me. I like it. It's not as approachable as other space related names or Juniper but it's definitely usable. My struggle is that it doesn't have a great nickname. Jupe or maybe Juju are lacking for me.

Me too!

Bobcat108 Says:

Jupiter Jones was the leader of the Three Investigators in a YA series written primarily in the '60s/'70s/'80s. His nn was First (for First Investigator) & he was extremely smart. His friends did call him Jupe, too.

indiefendi2 Says:

My name crush on my guilty pleasure list. I'd never use it but I love how grandiose it is yet it sounds so cool. It reminds me of soaring into space! 😜

AoifeORegan Says:

Am I the only person who loves this for a girl? Like Commander Jupiter on Pokemon?

fuzzycub Says:

I like it! The Baby Name Wizard book says it is "certainly formidable: the king of the Roman pantheon, the largest planet in the solar system. Yet despite all the trappings, this name comes across as fun and cute." I agree with that assessment.
