From the experts:

French-Canadian singer Dion made us notice this variation. In middle school and high school there was a girl named Celine in my grade. She fit the name perfectly. She was sporty and very, very smart.

It's lovely, but all I can think of is Celine Dion. That's not a bad association at all, but it's difficult when you associate a name too strongly with one person, to imagine it on someone else. If I met a Celine or two, I'm sure I would be able to.

very pretty name, considering it as a middle name with Anastasia. Anastasia Celine or Anastasia Céline. Seems really pretty and elegant to me

Not that I dislike Celine Dion, but her popularity where i live makes this name borderline unusable. It would be assumed you named your child after her. I love the name but her connection to it is just too strong. I like Celeste just as much.

I know-- but both meanings are awesome.

I agree. Celine is a very pretty name :) But Selene and Celine are homonyms only--not variations. The name Selene and Celine have different meanings. Selene means moon goddess and Celine means heavenly.

This isn't on my list, but I've always liked this name. As others have said, it's sleek and chic, with a beautiful meaning, and yet still classic. It ages well too. At first, I envision a lovely, sophisticated woman, but a little girl bearing the name Céline seems adorable to me!

Would anyone consider this to be a "nature name" in a way ?

Love the name Celine. I'm almost always drawn to girl's names with -ine endings, and this is no exception. I love its meaning of heavenly (I love its variant Celia too), plus the sleek and elegant, feminine and stylishly understated look and sound and feel of Celine. It's just one of the chic names you won't ever go wrong with!

I definitely prefer this spelling to Selene!

This is like a character from "The Mortal Instruments". She wasn't evil or anything, but not a great role model for feminists IMO...
