Gender: Female Meaning of Annie: "grace" Origin of Annie: English, diminutive of Ann Annie's Popularity in 2017: #297

From the experts:

Annie is one of the most open and optimistic, the-sun'll-come-out-tomorrow type of name, having been celebrated over the years in song (Annie Laurie), comic strip (Little Orphan Annie), folklore (Annie Oakley, born Phoebe), and film (Annie Hall). It strikes a nice old-fashioned-but-jaunty chord that still has appeal, but we do suggest that you consider putting a more formal version on her birth certificate.

Still well used, Annie was a Top 20 name from the 1880s to 1907.

This is fine as an independent name, but I prefer it as a nickname. It's not my favourite Anne related name, but it's quite nice. I had a bad experience with someone called Annie and that might cloud my judgement somewhat - but believe that her real name was Anne.

CaggieMcMasters Says:

A very happy name! This is my sister's name and she is a delight!

Annie Laurie Says:

My name is Annie Laurie, never knew it was a song,

Thepandaprincess223 Says:

Annie is plain beautiful. No other word can describe it better, Annie is timeless and can stand on its own. I can picture an Annie from all the way through childhood right through to an elderly woman that's smile just melts your heart. Annie could be short for Ann or Anna or Anne but I think that Annie can stand on its own and the child can get called a nick name is she wishes. I also love the name Annie-Belle.

scblovesnames Says:

I think Annie is a great name on its own. I've been wary of this though as it sounds particularly girlish and I'm not sure how well I like it on a grown women, but Ann could be used for this as a nickname, not just Annie for Ann but the opposite too.

TheHumanCanvas Says:

There are some lovely long-form possibilities for Annie, but I'd just let it stand on its own. I think Annie is beautiful.

Saffron_Rice Says:

Annie is lovely in its own right but also as a nn for Ann, Anastasia, Angharad, Anthea etc

ThistleThorn Says:

I love this it can be a nickname for Anne, Anna, Annaliese, Annette, or really anything starting with An.

kittykate928 Says:

I really love this name as a nn to Anais, but it's not my taste for a full name.
