About Townes
America has fallen in love with Hayes and Brooks and Banks and Rhodes, and now, parents are turning to Townes. With its fashionable S ending and image that can read as preppy or country or cowboy, depending on the context, Townes feels destined for mainstream success.
Townes for boys#1321 US
Given to 116 boys in a recent year, Townes was virtually unheard of as a given name before the 2000s but has been a fast climbing choice since the 2010s. Blending the surname and plural name trends, it has also been used on a small handful of girls in recent years.
Townes Van Zandt was a country and folk singer/songwriter.
Townes for girls#5705 US
Townes entered baby name consciousness — as a girl name, at least — in 2024 when Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma chose it for their daughter, Townes Meadow. Townes is a more established choice for boys, among whom it's often associated with the late musician Townes Van Zandt.
With its fresh surname style and fashionable S ending, Townes is bound to take off. But like Banks — the name of Duff and Koma's oldest daughter — we predict that this celebrity baby name announcement will inspire more parents of sons than daughters.
Pronounced TOWNZ.
As of October 2026, Townes ranked #1321 in US births in 2025 SSA, Nameberry popularity #356.
