Aziel

The name of a musician in the Old Testament, this once rare Biblical name entered the US Top 1000 in 2019 and has shot up the charts since. Given to less than 50 boys a decade ago, Aziel was chosen for around 1380 babies in 2024 — an impressive 27-fold increase.

Possibly a variation of Uzziel, the name sometimes appears as Oziel or Jaaziel too. Ultimately, it derives from the Hebrew azaz meaning "strength" and el signifying God, forming the meaning "God is my strength" or "the strength of God", making this name a modern Christian baby name.

With its cool letter Z and popular -el ending, Aziel joins the similar Jaziel, Azael, Azriel, Jassiel, and Azariah in the Top 1000. Notably borne by footballer Aziel Jackson and the name of baby clothes brand, Aziel and Luca, the name is one that may continue to rise over the coming years.
