About this list

Nameberry's favorite ancient names are rare but familiar choices, drawn from the set of names that rank inside the Nameberry Top 1000 but outside the US Top 1000.

These are practically perfect choices — unique names you won't see on the playground, but stylish enough to be beloved by our Berry community.

The best ancient names are drawn from sources like the Bible, including Balthazar and Zipporah; the Middle Ages, like Ferelith and Millicent; and Greco-Roman history, such as Acacius and Sabine.
