Virginia Dare was the first child born in the Americas to English parents, in the short-lived, “lost” Roanoke colony, and her name has since been mythologized and commercialized. Virginia, once the seventh most popular girls’ name in America, is now languishing at the lower half of the Top 1000, and we think it should take its place alongside other classics like Elizabeth and Katherine.
