Yes, most of the early settlers did have common classic Anglo-Saxon names, but records of the Raleigh, Massachusetts Bay and Plymouth colonies also produce some interesting exceptions. Just a few: Mehitabell, Bathsheba, Barnabas, Meribah, Shubael, Theodata, Lettice—and the more usable Myles, Priscilla, Jabez, Thomasine, Humphrey, Junia, Bethia, Persis, Simeon, Dudley and Phineas. .
