I was going to name my son Fletcher and switched to Thatcher at the last minute because I like the meaning of one who builds shelter better than one who makes weapons. He's in school now and I still love the name.

lesliemarion Says:
Cool if you think of quaint roofing, but awful if you think of Margaret Thatcher.

Francoamericano Says:
I love it. Gives me the same vibes of Fletcher

I'm in the USA and can't help but think about Margaret hearing it -- Maybe it's just the younger generation who were born after she was prime minister whose feelings about the name are independent from the ties to the former PM.

LilianaPearl Says:
I kind of like this name for a girl. Probably because it makes me think of Becky Thatcher and Margaret Thatcher.

paulapuddephatt Says:
People in USA seem to love this, but here in the UK, this name is strongly associated with Margaret Thatcher. Enough said - not a great idea to call your kid Thatcher in this country, that's all.

lnxn09 Says:
I love this name and Margaret Thatcher. Wouldn't hesitate for a second on using this name especially living in the U.S.

Zelliew Says:
Yes! I wouldn't want to be reminded of Margaret Thatcher either

With the nn 'Thatch'!

IsolationHedge Says:
Margaret Thatcher was an incredibly controversial person so I would be very hesitant to use this name, even though, personally, I think she was pretty good.

Sweekune Says:
I like the sound Thatcher has but I could never use this name. I wouldn't want my son associated with Margaret Thatcher at all.
I'm in the US with a child named Thatcher and haven't run into much association with the old PM. I don't like the association, but I still love the name.
