fearlessfirefly Says:

I saw a lady on TV who's name was Misty and her last name was Moon...

private Says:

American Horror Story made me love this name!! Misty Day is a sweet witch who loves Fleetwood Mac and animals. Plus her name is very pretty :)

ladimon Says:

I think nowadays people are more likely to associate this with Pokemon or American Horror Story.

attery squash Says:

I'll never forget the listing in a book of names I read years ago, which said that Misty "implies a clouded intellect" :-0

Wittyusername103 Says:

Is this a American thing? Because I've never heard of it and if I ask my parents who would have been 1 and 4 at the time they wouldn't know.

iipostmvh Says:

I agree with you. I was born in the mid 80's and have never heard of the film. In fact, until I saw your comment, I assumed it was a song.

otheralix Says:

Of course, I don't disagree that name information needs to contain more than snarky nameberry comments but I also know that I've taken names off my lists because my grandmother does the Stella yell from A Streetcar Named Desire, references Felix the Cat, Clarabelle the Cow, some celebrity/film character name, and/or sings a song associated with the name.

M.D. Says:

Sure, their grandparents may know the film. But their grandparents will know a lot of films with a lot of names in them. There's more to the name than an outdated movie.

otheralix Says:

Or have grandparents? My mother was born in 1970, my children have great-great grandparents. I'm pretty sure they all know of the film.

M.D. Says:

I think the writers on this web site are "getting old really fast." "Play Misty For Me" was popular in 1971. Any baby born now would grow up up in a generation who never heard of the film, unless they met some aficionado of old movies. A more rounded discussion of this name is needed including a discussion of its association with nature, weather, and emotion.

Bobcat108 Says:

I love the sound of the name, but do think of horses & cats rather than little girls w/this name.

namefreak218 Says:

This is my aunt'a name. I love it!! Misty has such a cool sound to it!

Theodora_Phoenix Says:

My sister had a bike named Misty some years ago. Yeah, we name our bikes, lol. Mine is Meadow. Now, whenever I hear this name I think of bikes, but it is still a gorgeous name.

AnonymousPerson Says:

Very pretty, but I find it makes a better name for a grey cat than for a person.

KittyMomma246 Says:

I like the nature aspect of the name & it sounds sweet, but I don't think I could use it.
It gives me this sort of "air head" vibe, maybe bc it sounds a little like an exotic dancer's nickname. :P lol

writtenmania Says:

who cares about the Play Misty for Me jokes! i adore this name, and i would do Misty Alexandra and twin sister Myrtle Wren.

orphanedhanyou Says:

Misty - one of my earliest 'i love this name' names, all because it belonged to my big sisters uber cool friend and the horse book Misty of Chincoteague. for me it was long before Pokemon so i feel its still usable. especially love the nature element which as a kid never really dawned on me
