In Castilian Spanish this is pronounced "looth". Simple and beautiful!

There are several differences between Portuguese of Portugal and Portuguese of Brazil, the prn. of Luz is one of them. All the Portuguese men I've met said Luz as "loosh", while here in Brazil (South) the "looz/ loose" prn. is the standard one.

My Grandmother has always held this, her middle name, is not pronounced "Loose" it is pronounced "Luth". I have heard her sisters pronounce her name this way too. I prefer to just say it as I see it "Looz". In English I think that is just the best way to say it. I like how in Portuguese it is pronounced Loosh, that is quite pretty. Regardless I really like this name. I do think it is much better in the middle spot then the first, and my Grandmother's first name though is also difficult to pronounce.

I love Luz and the meaning, and I don't mind that it's pronounced "loose". Luce, which admittedly is pronounced differently as an independent name, is a nickname for Lucy, Lucia, Lucinda, etc. Anyone who wants to think/express bad thoughts is being unkind, and really, could be horrible about any name. Those are just my feelings.

I have a friend named Luz who grew up in a Spanish speaking community but when she moved to an English speaking community she started going by her middle name once she figured out the connotations of being called loose. If you are in a bilingual community I'd stay away, there are a lot of other names that have light as their meaning or that could honor Mary.

I want to like this name but it's pronounced loose and who wants their daughter to be called "loose", so I'm sticking with Lux
