Jovie

Jovie has a lively and cheerful sound and makes a fresh twist on old (and new) favorites like Jody, Josie, and Jolie. It could be considered a short form of Jovita, Jovena, and Jovana - all feminine forms of Jove, the Roman king of gods - but it could equally work as a stand alone name.

Associated with the word "jovial" and therefore with joy and cheer, Jovie was used in the popular Christmas movie, Elf , in which actress Zooey Deschanel played the lead female role. This lends the name a touch of holiday spirit and it could work well for a December baby.

Merriness and joy are year round possibilities however, and others may link the name to the band Bon Jovi. It also fits in well with nickname-y choices like Millie and Rosie and with cool, trending choices, like Nova, Navy, and Oakley.

Jovie first appeared in the US stats in 2004, following the release of Elf in 2003, and it has been climbing ever since. As of 2024, it is given to around 500 babies each year and ranks in the US Top 700. If you are looking for a cute, friendly, but not overly popular name, Jovie may be just the ticket.

Pronounced JO-vee.

As of October 2026, Jovie ranked #521 in US births in 2025 SSA, Nameberry popularity #445.
