I have two characters who are siblings, 12 year old Eris and 9 year old Leo. Their dad really likes mythology and Greek and Latin stuff. Their mom got to pick the middle names, Melanie and Lucas. So, you have Eris Melanie Kendall and Leo Lucas Kendall.

TaliaCat Says:

Aside from the goddess of strife and discord, it is the name of a dwarf planet, which is kind of cool.

RoddyThlayli Says:

Don't. Just don't do this to your child. The goddess of strife and discord has absolutely no redeeming qualities in all of Greek mythology, at least not that I'm aware of. This is up there with naming your child Ares, Hades or Midas. If you must, use it as a nickname for Arista or Artemis. Or better yet, just use Iris, the goddess of rainbows.

Mandy-Mo Says:

I love the name but yes the meaning is off-puttng. However there is another option. There is an Irish Girls name of Erris, Its the most Western North peninsuala in Ireland. It means "To stand out"

Kerrienicole Says:

I actually think this would make a handsome name for a boy -an updated "Eric." Not a fan of it as a girl's name.

Zoey_Artemisia Says:

It has a nice sound, but the meaning makes it a definite no no. It's like naming your daughter Enyo (goddess of war and destruction). Iris sounds similar but has a nicer meaning, and it's still greek.

raevynstar Says:

I knew an Eris awhile back; she was mean, annoying, and I still frown thinking of her years later.

lesliemarion Says:

How could anyone choose this for his/her daughter? You don't have to be a scholar to name a child, but you should at least know something about it.
