This must be an accent thing because to me Declan sounds so different to duckling. I say DECK- lann. I like it with the nn Dex.

ambercat Says:

I also clicked on it to find out how (that Declaw name) is actually pronounced.

Leah_ Says:

I'm sorry but I just can't like this name. I clicked to see how it was pronounced. It sounds trendy, sorta feminine, a somewhat immature.

bethlena Says:

I honestly don't know why it does as such, but whenever I hear or see of the name "Declan", I think of Santa's reindeers, as the song goes ...Donner and Blitzen... I have no idea why I have this association, and it makes very little sense. But it's one thing that puts me off of using this name for my son. I also hate it shortened to Deck, but that's just my personal opinion. Each to their own and all...

roseofjune Says:

I don't think this name sounds attractive at all...

Ashley Says:

I named my son (b. 2011) Deklen I didn't like the traditional spelling bc someone references "De-clan" so I came up with an alternative spelling. He is Deklen John and loves being called Duckling Deky Dek or sometimes D... my husband found the name and I was initially against it bc I didn't like the nicknames and spelling but I loved the sound of the name... so I spelt it differently and everyone he's ever introduced to always comment on how nice his name is! 🙂

Lena_Aline Says:

I've met a Declynne, but never a Declan.

headintheclouds Says:

First time I've heard of Declan was on an adorable little boy I was babysitting, which made me really like this name. I thought it sounded strange when I first heard it, but you get used to it with more exposure. Seeing it spelled out, my instictive pronunciation is Dee-clan, like "the clan" xD I like the proper way Declan is pronounced though, and the nickname Dec/Deck. Declan's a nice Irish name for those who want their kids to have Irish names, though the downside is it's becoming more popular, to the extent that I think it's going to be the new Kevin/Sean of today's generation.

ambercat Says:

When I see this name on paper, it always reminds me of "declaw" (something I find unethical). Probably if I met someone named Declan, it would only be a matter of time before I slipped up and called him Declaw. Sorry.

mschull Says:

I cannot for the life of me understand why this name is popular. It's harsh and unattractive.
