Josie1497 Says:

I really love this name (and the show) but I wish it wasn't quite so connected to Supernatural. Castiel stands on its own, I think it just needs a little bit of distance from its source.

-EagleEyes- Says:

Samuel Castiel Dean makes a great combo, but it's way too Supernatural. Sadly, this name will be reserved for the middle.

Llorde Stuart Says:

Ugg... Love the meaning and sound but not the show... I don't think I could get around without someone asking me if I named my son after a Supernatural character. I think I'll have to pass on this one.

Clace Says:

Me too, tbh.
But, I'm actually quite, I don't know, possessive with the name? So, I'm glad that it's not /that/ popular.

Afton Olivia Says:

for real i thought this name would have skyrocketed after season 4

moraea Says:

I watched the first couple seasons and had to stop cuz of schedule conflict and found the name Cassiel during the break. When I went to catch up they had added Cass to the cast. It's what I plan on naming my next son and using Cash (I'm a Texan) as a nn. We were originally thinking Gabriel but I wanted something more unusual and stayed on the angel route

Megan R Says:

Cas is based on a real angel, though it's not on accepted as biblical canon- It goes by many spellings, mostly Cassiel or Kaziel, but also Qafsiel, Kaphtziel, and Mocoton.

Angelicaecb Says:

I don't think this name is too much at all. I'm a fan of the show, but even if I wasn't this name would fit all my qualifications, unlike the other similar names like Cadmus, Cassius, Caspian, Cassian, etc. Because to me Castiel sounds the least "too much" of them. It's soft and vowel filled, with gentle constants, and rolls off the tongue just enough- right up there with Jasper and Julian. nn Cas is really appealing too. But, alas, I doubt this name will actually be put o my list, and definitely not in a first name spot- too popular with the show association.

The_Supernatural_Hufflepuff Says:

I see. That is sad that it is pronounced that way :( I'm sorry

raevynstar Says:

I think it's actually KAD-vile, since it's Welsh. :(

The_Supernatural_Hufflepuff Says:

How is Cadfael pronounced?

The_Supernatural_Hufflepuff Says:

It is a bit much for a first name.

raevynstar Says:

Yeah, even if I did like it, the name is way too much as a first. But I'm a sucker for the -ell boys names anyway. :)

The_Supernatural_Hufflepuff Says:

I am a huge fan of the show and have this name on my list as a middle name :)

raevynstar Says:

Sadly, I found out that Cadfael isn't pronounced the way I thought. So I guess I'll stick with this name....

raevynstar Says:

As a person who does NOT watch that television show, I have Cadfael as an alternative on my list.
