Most Popular Names in the US

The most popular baby names in the US are released by the Social Security Administration every May, calculating statistics from the previous year.

This count of the Top 1000 names for each gender is a guide to what names babies actually received. While it’s extremely reliable in terms of gauging naming patterns and popularity in the past, the time lag makes it less valuable as a tool for predicting which baby names will be popular in the future.

To look at a name’s popularity over time and also see its standing on Nameberry’s own list of popular baby names as well as those from other countries, click through to the individual name pages. Here is the full 2016 list of most popular baby names in the US, which includes the top 1000 names for girls and names for boys.
