About Novie
A new spin on Nova, Novie was chosen by influencer couple, Zoe Sugg and Alfie Deyes in 2023. While it has begun to catch on for girls, both this spelling and the Novi alternative are used much more quietly for boys in the US. With its gentle-yet-sassy feel and its similarity in sounds to Noah, Levi, Coby, and Cove, it nevertheless may appeal to those looking for something unexpected.
Novie for girls#5194 US
Sweet and sassy Novie is an, ahem, novel shortening of the Latin name Nova, both of which appropriately mean "new". Novi is typically the go-to spelling of this diminutive — thanks to the recent trend of girl names that end in I — but that may change now that influencer couple Zoe Sugg and Alfie Deyes used Novie for their baby girl.
Novie Nell — together meaning "new light" — was the perfect choice for their Christmastime daughter. Novie bears resemblance to another rising Christmas name, Jovie, as in Zooey Deschanel's beloved character in Elf.
Pronounced NO-vee.
As of October 2026, Novie ranked #4112 in US births in 1923 SSA.
