Hmmm, interesting. Thanks for the ”in real life” scenario! This can be helpful!

EmilyMcA Says:

I love Sloane! I named my first son Ferris Jay as I loved Ferris Bueller and it was set in my hometown. So glad to see a baby Sloane!

Erin20101316 Says:

I love this name! It’s connotation and meaning are strong and fierce. It is unique but not a new invention. I plan to name my daughter Sloane! 🥰 It’s too bad some people don’t enjoy it, but I don’t mind. To each their own! Doesn’t bother me a bit. ☺️

NimbleNymph Says:

When I first heard Sloane, I hated it. I didn't understand the popularity. I think it was the "slown" pronunciation. Looking back, I think it's actually quite nice. It flows well. It feels a little plain, but it's not horrible. The meaning is cool.

Boba_Buddy_Le Says:

Hate is a strong word but it's exactly how I feel towards this name. Just because it's unusual does not mean it's good. I find Sloane to be clunky, boring and ugly. The end.

Boba_Buddy_Le Says:

You're definitely not 23. I can tell because you have the maturity of an 11 year old Gacha enthusiast.

Boba_Buddy_Le Says:

Way to be mature.
Also, *You're*

Watching you get triggered at everyone in the comments is hilarious.

A lot of people hate this name, but I’m not fully on board with them. I don’t really hate this name at all. For the positives, there’s the character from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and there’s the exciting, warrior-like edge behind its meaning: “raider”. For the negatives, I personally don’t like the sound of it too much- mostly because of the “Sl” sound. Slime, sloth, slow, slug, slab, slob, etc. don’t necessarily sound very appealing. Also the emphatic “Oh” sound gets on my nerves, just the same with “Joseph/Joe”, “Moses”, or “Homer”. But is it the worst name out there? Not even close. Not my favorite, but it still has plenty of positive connotations going with it.

Annabvella Says:

chill out luv

Annabvella Says:

sounds like a surname rather than a first or middle name

Nommy Says:

I actually quite like Sloane, and it saddens me to see it get bash by these ugly comments. This is not the worst name I've heard on a girls, i.e. Imma, Laston and Anthem. It is quiet sleek and badass, and it is fairly original. And so what if there's a toilet brand with that name? There are plenty names that are used in supplies, and such brands.

cmcd Says:

I didn’t mind this name until I overheard a gymnastics teacher saying “slow, slow” repeatedly while the little ones were walking on the beam. Turns out she was saying “Sloane” and it just sounds too similar if people don’t enunciate

brivo Says:

All the negative comments make me like this name even more lol.

carlyc123 Says:

I think it's a sophisticated name. Are you still happy with it?

The Ubiquitous Shadow Says:

this is such a pretty name! rolls right off the tongue. very pretty and strong name

TechnoKitten Says:

TechnoKitten Says:

Bruh calm down, also you're definitely not 23, you're 9 and/or a troll.

RSH Says:

You must still be in middle school because that's about the level your comebacks are at. And still a little insecure, I see. Don't worry, we all grow out of it soon enough.

pointless Says:

Alrighty calm down love.

Sloane Janai Says:

Dont feel awful for anyone named Sloane. We're proud of our name .We know it's strong, unique and original .

Sloane Janai Says:

At least my name isnt as unoriginal or boring like "ashley"

Sloane Janai Says:

You're down right ugly

Sloane Janai Says:

Wow bunch of ignorant idiots on here. And with unoriginal, basic boring names too I bet.

My name is Sloane, im a 23 year old female living in Canada. I am proud to own this name and i know any gender that has this name is happy to have it as well. It's a bad ass fucking name!

All "Sloanes" know the struggle growing up with this name as well. But my name carries such beauty and strength. All the haters can go to hell for judging my name because it is a loved name and i know im lucky to have it!!

anniebrown01 Says:

I love Sloane! All of these comments have been so negative, but I just think of Sloane from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which I'd think is a pretty positive connotation! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I guess.

slooming Says:

Sloane is the name of Macklemore's daughter. It's a really cute name in my opinion. Not once has it made me imagine sloths or slugs. if your name is Sloane, rock it!

Jessica Benson Says:

To clarify, I also see the name as badass too like some others suggested. Like the flowered headband could easily be worn with a leather jacket on a motorcycle, and she'd totally rock it with class. Lol

Jessica Benson Says:

My daughter's name is Sloane Lillian. It's a beautiful pretty but strong name just like her. When I picture Sloane I picture big blue eyes, blonde curls with a pretty headband of pink/peach roses. I think it's an absolutely gorgeous name for a girl and feels light and feminine but still strong, and can be taken seriously... instead of whimsical like other girl named (like ones that end in "y" or "ie").

Carolinekalmes Says:

I think this name doesn't sound "pretty" because there's not many common words that start with "sl" and the majority that DO are unappealing words-- slug / slime / sleazy / slouch / slump / slutty / slow / sludge / slaughter / sloth.

I honestly can't think of any beautiful words that start with that blend and I think it's why a lot of people have an adverse reaction.

paulapuddephatt Says:

I really don't see the appeal of this name. It's definitely not feminine, in terms of the sound. I wouldn't like it on either gender. Not my style at all.

JustineAndNames Says:

I used to dislike this name quite greatly, but of late I'm finding it a lot more usable, and I think it's a great name to suit various personalities (I can see both a badass and a 'girly girl') and it's actually quite nice, especially when paired with a feminine middle name

Anne Says:

I have a Sloane Emmaline. I get lots of positive comments on her name! I have even been finding her name on things in gift shops lately, so it must be getting more popular. I think it's a great name, and if you like it, use it. Who cares what others think, people can be so rude on the internet.

Caseyc529 Says:

Yeah I can't believe some of these comments I'm reading. It's one thing to not like a name but to express such hateful language towards it seems overkill! Not sure why you take the time to describe how much you think a name is "ugly," knowing someone out there has this name.

By the way... I just named my daughter Sloan Charlotte. I agree with those of you who see this as a strong, badass name! I also think sleek and sophisticated! I've loved this name ever since I first saw Ferris Bueller and my daughter is rocking it!

BlueLavender Says:

It drives me crazy now too! My husband is a native Czech speaker and he says it's pronounced slightly more like it's spelled, but when I hear him say it, it sounds just like Sloane to me :-)

arr! Says:

Oh gods, I was just about to comment that! :D I thought it was pronounced a different way, but now that I know it's "slon", I can't take it seriously anymore...

BlueLavender Says:

In many Slavic languages (Polish, Czech, Slovak, Russian, etc.), "slon" (pronounced the same as Sloane) means "elephant". So if there's any possibility you're child would one day visit Central to Eastern Europe or any Russian-speaking countries, she would be introducing herself as Elephant.

1daymore Says:

It reminds me of slug somehow I dont know why

sfinkler Says:

Favorite one syllable girls name right now! Works for a kid and adult. Known enough but still unique.

xhart Says:

For some reason I've never been able to get on board with this name. I wouldn't call it ugly, but I can't explain what I don't like about it. I don't know, maybe it's because it has a similar sound to slain, which does not conjure good images. Perhaps one day I'll be able to my finger on it. This really is the only name where I couldn't figure out the source of my dislike. I've known a few fantastic Sloane's and there's even the TV character, but even with all that I'm not able to see the name in a positive light.

shelbynh Says:

Mackelmore named his daughter this, and released a popular song, "Growing up (Sloane's Song)", for her...

Michelle Henderson Says:

Because everyone is different, that is what makes the world go round. I love the name Sloane, its my new granddaughters name, middile name is EVELYN...Love them both.

Michelle Henderson Says:

Hate, Ugly, awful, such harsh words, Opinions are one thing but rude, because your opinions differs is down right nasty.

Omar Says:

I picture someone named Sloane as a black-haired girl who has a few, close friends and smokes a lot of stoges.

LostKid Says:

I was going to be named Sloane or Spencer, but my parents decided on Katherine instead. I wish either my first or middle name was more masculine though

Theodora_Phoenix Says:

Since no context was given, I suppose that I should mention that I did not say I disliked the names, nor did I say they shouldn't be used on girls. It was just an offhand opinion.

snowsbeloved Says:

Haha didn't think of that!

snowsbeloved Says:

I love Cambria!!!

snowsbeloved Says:

Definitely not girly, but while I can see the tomboyish cute vibe in Greer, I hate sloggy, soggy, heavy Sloane. Ugh...

snowsbeloved Says:

I think of SLOW :(

zenithstarr Says:

Such a badass name, love it :)

IR1005 Says:

I never though of this name as pretty until I watched "Ferris Buellers Day Off" and saw how much of a badass name it is on Sloane Peterson. I think to truly appreciate this name you have to see it used.

michelle hall Says:

My middle name is Sloan. I didn't care for it when I was growing up but now that I'm older I see it as unique. I have only met one other female with the same name in my life but she spelled it Slone. It's much more unique than my first name Michelle. I have met a hundred Michelle's in my life. Can't wait to pass it on to my child male or female.

EW314 Says:

Hear hear! Sloane, Blair, Paige, Greer, Laine, Adair... I find all of these unbearably ugly and unappealing. Usually I can see the attraction of a name, even if I personally dislike it, but I literally cannot understand how anyone could like this!

RSH Says:

I get that not every girl name has to be girly or frilly... but it doesn't have to be downright ugly either.

Hailey Says:

I have never liked this name, ever. It reminds me of the word "sleazy." It sounds awful, and I could never give it to a baby.

headintheclouds Says:

I don't really like Sloane as a name, for either boy or girl, though even more so for a girl. I just think of sloths and slouching when I see the name. It just sounds and looks off, and has a very gloopy, lethargic feel to me.

priviledgedpistachios Says:

Not all girls' names have to girly.

Ruanne Says:

That is a lovely combination.

RoddyThlayli Says:

No offense to anyone with this name, but I dislike it on a boy (bit biased by the Inheritance books, I think) and think it's absolutely awful for a girl.

Marlz81 Says:

This name is SOOOO harsh sounding:/ I don't get why anyone would use this name.

Zelliew Says:

I can't understand how a name like this is gaining in popularity..........groan

Zelliew Says:

Me too - I think of a sloth

TaylorAbby Says:

Love this name! Maybe it's the simplicity or the fact I associate it with ferris bueller but it just seems a bit bad ass! A strong woman's name!

nshults2 Says:

I agree. I knew a girl with this name and I always felt awful for her. It sounds like a type of mud or something. Just an ugly name IMO.

epowell Says:

Love it's simplicity. I like boy sounding names on girls though. Sloane, Sawyer, and Spencer. All three would be great on sisters.

Dspisces1407 Says:

All I can think of is the brand of toilets. Not a very flattering connection so I do not like this name. It's slightly boring also.

JustSomeNameFreak Says:

I don't know why, but sloane sounds so boring...

Ashley0425 Says:

I agree. Cannot stand this name

Guest Says:

My daughters' name is Cambria Sloane.

Caroline Says:

I agree with you too.

jordalini Says:

I really like this name, I think it is sleek, and a cool girl name.

DearestJules Says:

I quite like Joan.

NaomiNY Says:

I agree. No offence, but I find this name as boring as Paige.

Alicia1 Says:

I like this name, I would have thought it was a boys name though.

lauren forstner Says:

This name would sound good for a middle name but as a first it sounds drab. Definitely not my taste.

EmmaF Says:

I agree, I think this name is lovely, but it reminds me of marshy areas for some reason.

betsykran15 Says:

I absolutely agree!

mabespark Says:

This is not a girl's name. Sorry, but NMS at all. It just doesn't sound feminine enough.

mabespark Says:

Totally agree.

kitchi1 Says:

Funny reading all of the comments how much I disagree with them. I see Sloane as a total badass who only sees green lights, never red. An awesome girl who is caring, but doesn't let people walk all over them.

Vespertinerose Says:

Sloane is another name for a women whom is seen as a gold digger or marrying for money. Certainly not the glowing image one wants to bestow on their daughter! I would strongly do more research on this name before choosing it, just be the safe side.

caroblaise Says:

Reminds me of "slow". When I see this name, I think of a turtle...

Theodora_Phoenix Says:

Sloane and Greer are two names that do not sound very girly.

Guest Says:

This name is ugly to me. Even Joan is better.

Erinm Says:

I don't understand the popularity of this clunky ugly name. I almost can't think of a name I dislike more. It's like a combination of Slug and Joan/Moan/groan
