“Once tainted by the association with the Spanish dictator”?! That’s like saying the name Adolf was “once tainted” by association with the Holocaust.
Francisco Franco started a bloody civil war, murdered hundreds of thousands and put millions in concentration camps. To this day, even the name Francisco is unusable in Spain.
So I don’t care how much you like the name, show some goddamn respect

I really love the name Francis, and preferred it until as a joke I decided to name one of my stuffed animals Franco. It has a nice ring to it, and can still have the nick name Frankie. I think it works well as a first name.
