Quite agree that this would be best as a middle name; Fitzgerald as a first name would seem smarmy and WASPy-prententious to me. Otherwise, this is one of those wonderful, also easily-recognizable surnames someone like me-- first-gen US immigrant who always spells out my last name before I'm even asked-- sometimes wistfully wished they had.
