I like Briar better as a boy's name than a girl's. The meaning of a thorny patch sounds strong and more masculine than feminine to me.

I've loved Briar for a boy since reading Tamora Pierce's Circle of Magic books as a child. Briar was my favorite character and I connect with him and Rosethorn very strongly. I understand that the Briar Rose/Sleeping Beauty connection makes most people think girl when they hear Briar, but for me it will always be Briar Moss, reformed thief turned gardener mage.

I went to Kindergarten with a Briar. I actually like it better for a boy.

Love this for a girl, but I wouldn't use it for a boy. Has the Sleeping Beauty connotation plus there are just better nature names for boys (Cove, Wren, Birch, etc.)
