April Colleen is a gorgeous name!

Liz Kent Says:

Mate, if you're going into this much detail, you are never going to find a name for your goddamn child! Every name has its flaws, but April is easy to spell and say, but you are unlikely to meet another April, and is a simple but beautiful name.

Liz Kent Says:

I'm absolutely in love with this name, a complimentary name to Daisy

aleerakate Says:

I love the name April and my partner, mother and grandfather were all born in April. Seems like a good way to honour them all without naming a little girl Sharon Patrick Dale?

scblovesnames Says:

He was born in March 14 months ago and we named him Calvin but Still a lovely name.

SparkleNinja18 Says:

Yes, very much so. Also, Billie is longer than April so I don't see the point.

ElsaAnne Says:

Is Billie as a nickname for April too much of a stretch??

paulapuddephatt Says:

I am in UK, not USA. I don't actually hear either name excessively, tbf. I just feel that I have heard April less, in recent years. They are both fine.

indiefendi2 Says:

how is April "fresh" compared to Avril? April is one of the most common girl names in America. In one year it was the 23rd most popular name of all names. if anything Avril is more fresh here.

paulapuddephatt Says:

I can only think of Avril Lavigne with Avril. I do like her a lot, but I don't like names that I only or mainly associate with a celebrity. April seems fresh, compared to Avril.

April Chateauneuf Says:

Ha-ha, I love all of this. I am an April as well. With the added insult of being descended from a June. All of this is true, but I have never been bothered by it. I love my name and the fact that I can respond to the question, "Hey April, where's June?" in a snarky way because I actually have a June. If I have a son, his name will be August.

EW314 Says:

My favourite month name - it's so fresh, crisp and pretty! I'd have a dilemma though: use it for an April baby and it seems a bit corny; use it for a baby born in another month and it seems a bit odd. Hm.

berry_chick Says:

At least your name doesn't get misspelled or mispronounced all the time like mine does.

berry_chick Says:

Natalie April sounds like a lovely name!

scblovesnames Says:

I love this. I am pregnant with my second due in April. If a girl, I just think this would also be a unique middle name for our chosen first of Natalie. Natalie April. I put it on my list.

April wilson Says:

My name is April and I am born in January. My name has nothing to do with what time of year I was born but another significant event in my mother's life. Above all, she really liked the meaning. I highly doubt most people live up to the meaning of their name, my name is just the easiest to pick on because everyone knows what it is/means so I would let your guard down about that pet peeve.

SoDallas3 Says:

April is a nice name. Any name came be nicknamed or teased.

Psychokitty Says:

My Name is April and born in April. mom wanted to name me Melissa but my grandma liked April. I was supposed to be born at the end of March but was getting named April no matter what. Lol!

Psychokitty Says:

No doubt! If you're thin skinned I guess you'll let everyone bother you about your name. Most people take others names and tease or nickname with it. i could care less.

Psychokitty Says:

I Love my name April Colleen. Name meanings for April are spring girl or opening of flowers.

Zelliew Says:

A lovely name !

SoDallas3 Says:

Geez...You sound like a ray of sunshine.

ectothermicfauna Says:

i, im an April. April Marie. If you are considering naming your child April here are things they will have to deal with their whole life. 1) they will be asked "were you born in april?" EVERY time they meet someone new. little annoying by the time they are 40. Sometimes they'll be asked if their parents were ninja turtles fans... do them a favor and explain who this is (april oneil) ahead of time.

As a child they may be teased by others by being called some variation of the word "Ape"... thats flattering for a young girl... not. Speaking of flattering, when I was in elementary school we all did a project that involved creating a poster with our names meaning on it. Imagine how awesome I felt to see my name meant "second" next to all the other children whose names meant things like "most beautiful" or "noble" etc. How many things can you list in which being "second" is considered the best outcome? yeah. If your daughters teacher is merciful they may just put "4th month of the year" down. At least that means well.... nothing really.

They will also be called "April may june" or asked if their middle name is "may" at least a billion times by the time they graduate. Most of the time these people will think they are being clever or totally original too. Your daughter will likely have the grace to shrug it off after surviving elementary school however. As an adult sometimes people will intentionally misspell their name on credit cards, mail reference etc.. simply for the reason that others dont always believe that a month is a proper name for a person, and think it must have been altered in someway. I get "Aprel" and "Aprile" in my mail a lot. this has lead me to need to say "April, like the month" countless numbers of times when giving out my address over the phone. It gets really annoying when you cant cash a check because the bank doesnt have a "Aprel Marie" on your account.

March is always a fun time of the year for us Aprils, because you will think everyone is talking about you, every year without fail...but it helps if you have a very low sense of paranoia. By the time the actual month of April rolls around, you're used to it and tone it out, but then people get upset with you when they cant get your attention by calling your name.

if youre ok these things then by all means name your daughter April, but please be ready with a good reason for doing so as i clearly remember asking my parents why they named me this and "we had to put something down and you were born in april" doesnt exactly send the impression to a young girl that she was the biggest priority in your life at the time.

Just sharing my experiences.

CupcakeGirl13 Says:

Essa Says:

I love this name, I think I've only ever met one but I always admired her name, I don't immediately think of the month but it is definitely my favourite month name.

Annabee Says:

I completely agree! I love this site but it has always really annoyed how the descriptions are so bias! Also I have always thought April is a beautiful name (it's my birth month) and I don't think it's too popular, I've actually never meant anyone named April.

Annabee Says:

April Kim Says:

I don't like how nameberry stated their opinion on this name and basically knocked it. My name is April and I happen to love it. Lots of people tell me its a pretty name. I like that its not too common and its short and sweet. April is the month that things start to bud and come to life. I think its beautiful

bustedhoney Says:

I love this name. It's the only 'month' name that I like. June and May sound so old fashioned and others just sound silly.

April Says:

well I was born in March but the reason why I was named april was because my 2 brothers who were 10 and 12 loved ninjas turtles and named me after O'Neal in 96

Guest Says:

I know an April but her birthday is in June, I never understood people who use month names that their kids aren't born in. Just a slight peeve of mine.

raevynstar Says:

I'm quite biased, as April is my birth month, but I like the sound in any case.
