Woods

Woods is a nature name that is a cousin to the stylish Brooks and Forest, evoking the entire world of trees. Sometimes used as a diminutive of Woodrow or Edward, Woods is rugged and outdoorsy, with a preppy surname-style feel too.

One caution: teenage boys in the English-speaking world probably won't appreciate having the nickname Woody, or a Woods- related name in middle or high school. Although, with 80 boys given the name in a recent year, and this number set to rise, perhaps current colloquialisms will fall (at least slightly) out of use in the future.

Woods is also given to girls, where it ranks #14840 in the US.

Pronounced WOODZ.

As of October 2026, Woods ranked #14840 in US births in 2025 SSA.
