The Top Baby Names of 2019 Are Here!

The top baby names of 2019 are (finally!) here, and we have a brand-new Number 1 girl name! Olivia usurps Emma for the title of most popular name for girls, while reigning champ Liam stays in the top spot for boys.

Emma and Isabella each dropped a position, ranking at Number 2 and Number 5, respectively, while Ava held on to the Number 3 slot, and Sophia rose to Number 4.

Liam and Noah remain in the top two spots for boys, while Oliver rose from Number 5 to Number 3, and William dropped to Number 4. Newcomer to the Top 5 for boys in Elijah, up two spots from 2018.

In 2019, Ethan returns to the Top 10 for boys, replacing Logan, which now ranks at Number 16.

The fastest-rising baby names for girls in 2019 was Amoura, an alternate spelling of the name Amora. For boys, the honor goes to Sekani, inspired by Sekani Carter, the younger brother character in the 2018 film The Hate U Give

Other fast-rising names include vintage revivals Theodora, Amias, and Ambrose; newly-coined Navy, Oakleigh, and Kyro; and international imports Ainhoa, Emani, and Yaritza.

Celebrity baby names such as Archie, the son of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, and Crew, the son of Chip and Joanna Gaines, were among the top risers last year.

Trendy spellings Jaxtyn and Emmarie were the two fastest-falling names in 2019.

Also dropping fast was Chad — now associated with a stereotype for an alpha male — which fell over 200 places in 2019. Karen also dropped in popularity, slipping 23 spots last year.

Pop-culture related picks Elon, Bowie, and Drake dropped significantly in 2019.
