Ermintrude was the cow on Magic Roundabout, if I remember correctly. That programme has a lot to answer for. I can never take Zebedee or Dougal seriously...!!!

I don't agree that this is as outdated as Gertrude. I always thought that this was quite cute, but Gertrude is awful, or seems it to me, and that comes from someone who is open to vintage names in general.

Holbs Says:

Gertrude is probably a little to fusty to come back in a big way anytime soon, but I think Trudy is accessible, bouncy, and fun, while still being serious enough to grow along with the child.

RoddyThlayli Says:

I like Truly/Truely more.

scblovesnames Says:

I think Trudy is very nice. A nickname that can stand on its own.

Vespertinerose Says:

I like Ermintrude and Trudy would make a nice diminutive for the full name. I also am rather smitten with Gertrude.

DearestJules Says:

But Beatrix I can totally see.

DearestJules Says:

It's hard to see Gertrude becoming "hot" anytime soon, haha.

lesliemarion Says:

Oh, but I beg to differ. I think Gertrude/Gert/Gertie/Trudy and Beatrix/Bea/Trixie are going to become two hot names!
