My cousin named her son this. I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it.

It's old because it's also a religious reference, in the sense that our Savior was ransom for all people. 1 Timothy 2:6.

So to me, it's both a very rakish and spiritual name. Quite the combination. A strong spirited boy could wear it very well.

We do get a lot of people who reply with "Ranson?" Or "Branson?", but honestly it doesn't bother me, there are lots of people out there coming up with much weirder names for their babies because they think they sound unique. At least this one is easy to pronounce when you read it.

A former teacher of mine has a son named Ransom. They chose the name because of something to do with a Bible verse.

It just doesn't sound like a name to me. At all. But that's just my opinion.

I have a son named Ransom. Our only issue with the name has been that when he was learning to say his name, he couldn't pronounce "r"s, so he introduced himself as "Handsome", which was actually pretty adorable.

I had my son in 2006. He is named after his great grandfather. Ransom is a family name and my son loves his name and it totally suits him.
