I knew a person in our neighborhood named Marsden when I was a teenager. I think it is perfectly usable. Rarely heard of yet not made-up. Classic yet fits the zeitgeist. Simple to spell, looks good on CVs, "cool"; and most people "get" it pretty immediately.

Granted, I'm not averse to the surnames as first names approach (what of Duncan, Emerson, Taylor?) so obviously if you are then this name may not be for you.

First name of great modernist painter Marsden Hartley. Nickname 'Mars' would be cute too!

Nameberry is wrong: this totally fits the bill for a new, unusual but usable boy's name. It even has two syllables and ends in "n".

I might be in the minority here (at least seeing nb's description of the name) but I quite like this name on a little boy!
