Gender: Female Origin of Easter: English from German goddess name Eostre

Easter Origin and Meaning

The name Easter is a girl's name of English origin.

Easter has been used as a name for several hundred years, as part of the day-naming tradition; now, this rarely heard holiday celebration name would make a novel choice for a springtime baby. Background:The early Anglo-Saxon monk and scholar Bede took the name of a goddess--Eostre-- whose feast was celebrated at the vernal equinox and gave it to the Christian festival of the resurrection of Christ.

Easter appeared on the Top 1000 list during the first few decades of the twentieth century. It was heard for the character played by Jasmine Guy in the TV miniseries Queen.

International versions include Pascal, Pasqua and Pascua.

I prefer Eostre, or even Ostara, tbh.

I think this would be a nice alternative to Esther.

I think this is could really work. Not without a few obstacles perhaps, but it's definitely usable.
For the record, Pascal is not an alternative female name to Easter; Pascal is a boy's name. Pascale is the female version. It has the same pronunciation.

Is it pronounced Ester or like the holiday Easter? The latter, ummm no. I do like Ester, but would spell it without the "a". IMO if your kid's name needs phonics for someone to figure it out, you are trying too hard.

I don't think there's anything wrong with this name at all. It's really quite pretty in my eyes.

I think you could possibly get away with this? Maybe? Just because it sounds a little like Esther.

I used to hate this as a name, but then it grew on me, and I thought okay why not?
