From the experts:

Benson has outgrown its long association with a wisecracking TV butler. Parents may see it as an alternate route to nickname Ben, very different in image than the biblical Benjamin. Benson also carries the patronymic theme made popular by Jackson, Harrison, and Jefferson. More recently, Olivia Benson of Law and Order: SVU has reclaimed this as a surname. On a less salubrious note, Benson is still connected to the cigarette brand Benson and Hedges.

I love the name Benson for a couple reasons.

1. I love Jodi Benson - voice of Ariel from The Little Mermaid
2. Olivia Benson - Mariska Hargitay on SVU (my fave show)
3. Plethora of nick names - Ben, Bennie, Benny, Son, Sonnie, Sonny and full forced Benson :)

I like the new twist of Benson instead of Benjamin. I used to have a good friend named Benton, and he never went by the nickname Ben. So I think keeping the entirity of the name Benson would be ok.

I like Benson more than Benjamin. But I'm kind of bored of the nickname Ben.
