When Marion Michael Morrison became John Wayne around 1930, his last name took on an air of cowboy cool that lasted about thirty years. In fiction, it may best be linked the Batman (Bruce Wayne) or to the comedy movie Wayne's World, though the name may have got a slightly bad rep owing to the fact it's borne by not one, not two, but five separate serial killers.
Nevertheless, with grandpa names in style, a new Batman movie in the public eye, and similar sounding choices rising in the charts, Wayne was given to nearly 400 boys in the US in a recent year.
