Arjen
Arjen Origin and Meaning
Arjen is a Dutch name, sometimes viewed as a contracted form of Adrian, or as a variation of Ariën. Ariën itself is an alternative spelling of the Indo-Iranian Aryan and Arian, and was likely inspired by French Adrien; whichever root you take then, the name is associated with the meanings "man of Adria" and "noble, honorable".
This spelling became more popular in the Netherlands during the 1950s, perhaps in the wake of World War Two and the connotations "Aryan" then took on, as has remained more popular than its original source. It is notably borne by Dutch footballer, Arjen Robben, and musician, Arjen Lucassen.
This name should not be confused with Arjan, which is a Dutch form of Adrian, or Arjun, a Sanskrit and Hindi name meaning "right, shining, white".
