This extra-N variation is hot on the tails of mega popular Brooklyn and takes it a bit further from the New York borough.

Both spellings are off their highs of around 2010, but Brooklyn is holding up better -- not surprisingly, as original names usually have more staying power than the variations they inspire.

While the popularity of the name Brooklyn is often credited to its choice by Victoria and David Beckham for their first (now married) son, the name is overwhelmingly more popular for girls than for boys. Brooklyn was used for about 3200 baby girls and only 57 baby boys last year, while the Brooklynn version was used only for girls, given to 874 baby girls in the US.

Cady is one of those names that sounds popular but is actually rare in this form, given to only a few dozen baby girls in the US last year.

Its origins are unclear, and as many possible meanings and origins are cited as there are sources on the web. It may relate to male names Cade, which means round or barrel, or Caden, meaning battle. The similar Caddie is an antiquated nickname for Caroline.

One disadvantage is that Cady will forever be misunderstood as Katie. Advantage: It can be used, perhaps in the middle place, to honor women's rights leader Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

Nevertheless, it is still selected for 600 girls every year, and with the spelling variations of Camryn and Kamryn also featuring in the US charts, it continues to feel like a Top 200 name, ranking alongside Mackenzie, River, or Summer. 
Surprisingly popular, given its meaning, Cameron comes with the built in nicknames, “Cam” and “Cammie” which bring something gentler to the name.

The feminine form of Charles, Charlotte derived from Charlot, a French diminutive of Charles meaning "little Charles" and the name of Charlemagne’s son in French literature and legend. The name was popularized by England's Queen Charlotte Sophia, wife of King George III.
 
Queen Charlotte was the mother of fifteen children and a patron of Mozart and Bach. She and George ruled England in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century during the French and American revolutions.

Cora is a lovely, old-fashioned girls' that has been recently rejuvenated by its contemporary-feeling simplicity. In fact, Cora seemed headed straight for the top of the popularity list when the coronavirus pandemic somewhat weakened its appeal.
 
Though she has never been completely out of favor, Cora has had her ups and downs. A Top 20 name in the 1880's, she had sunk to Number 876 in 1988 before reversing course yet again. A more recent inspiration is the appealing American-born Cora Crawley, Countess of Grantham on Downton Abbey.

Like its sister baby girl names Isabella and Olivia, Sophia has gained widespread favor by appealing to a broad range of parents: Intellectuals who like it for its meaning and those attracted to its femininity, parents who want a classic name and those looking for a name with Latin roots—the Sofia spelling is also popular.
